Events

The Stanford Wine Society combines double-blind tastings with winery visits. Some previous wineries and importers who have presented include:

  • Chateau Margaux
  • Ridge Vineyards
  • Bollinger
  • Taylor Fladgate
  • Dr. Loosen
  • The Rare Wine Company
  • Mindego Ridge

The Nitty Gritty:

Our events fall into two categories:

  • Members-only events: open only to members (and their guests). These usually include our introductory wine workshops, small-group theme tastings, and winemaker visits.

  • Open events: all members of the Stanford community are welcome! These usually include our big wine-tasting parties, and joint events with other groups.

For both kinds of events, entry is almost always free of charge! However, everyone is required to sign up online before the deadline, which is usually midnight on the Monday before a Thursday event, unless otherwise advertised. Sign-up forms are online, on OrgSync-- sign in to access them.

Also, we almost always ask that you bring your own wine glasses.

If there is space, each member who signs up for an event may bring a guest to members-only events-- within reason. At the moment we are not enforcing a strict limit to the number of guests you may invite over the course of the quarter, but we will keep track in order to ensure that all members have an equal opportunity to bring guests if space becomes limited.

If we are oversubscribed, we’ll hold a lottery to assign the available spots. For members-only events, we'll prioritize members over guests; for public events, we'll reserve some spots for members and some for non-members. In a few cases, we may also need to prioritize graduate students (if our funding source demands it).

In any case, we will always send you a confirmation email on Tuesday and ask you to reply to confirm. If you can't make it, please let us know as soon as you can-- if you don't, it's unfair to others who want to attend our events. We reserve the right to turn you down next time, if you accumulate a record of no-shows.
